Tesoro (pronounced te-SOR-oh) means treasure in Spanish – and it is, as you will soon see. Tesoro is located in the heart of San Diego’s premiere shopping, entertainment and dining area – the Gaslamp quarter. It is housed in a charming Victorian, now a historical building.
The restaurante & taberna is carefully designed to maintain a delicate balance by preserving elements of a bygone era while transforming the interior space into a modern and enticing restaurant serving Contemporary Mexican Cuisine. The menu offers a blending of traditional dishes from the northern and southern regions – combining old and new into a fusion that is both classic and modern with a creative twist.
Tesoro is the culmination of a dream for owners and siblings Rosie and Ricardo Vera, who have lived in San Diego for 24 years.
Tesoro is truly a family affair. The restaurant runs with the support of their mother, Felipa Vera and their brothers Manuel and Angel Vera. On any given day, the kitchen and front rooms of Tesoro look much like a Vera family gathering – Angel wisks by waiting tables, Felipe fills in at the bar and mom is busy in the kitchen helping with the cooking. Tesoro runs smoothly now because of the entire family works hard. Without them, Rosie and Ricardo know they couldn’t do it.
So close to their dream, Rosie and Ricardo struggled for two years to bring Tesoro to life. Opened in the fall of 2004, Tesoro is a shining gem in the Gaslamp quarter. |
